The Civil Status Act 1981 (Amendment Act 2024) which came into force on the 1st of January 1982 lays down procedures for the registration of births, deaths, marriages and for other matters relating to the civil status of persons in Mauritius.
The main legislation which provides for the functioning of civil status offices is the Civil Status Act 1981 (Amendment Act 2024), which came into force on the 1 January 1982 and the Code Civil Mauritian which lays down the conditions which have to be satisfied before a person under 18 years, can contract marriage. With the introduction of computerized operations, it is compulsory to produce the National Identity Card for every civil status transaction.
