An application for a certificate issued under the authority of the Prime Minister with regards to the publication of a civil marriage of two Non-Citizens/Non-Residents should reach the Central Civil Status Office, 7th Floor, Emmanuel Anquetil Building, Port Louis at least one month before the intended date of marriage.
The civil marriage may be celebrated after one day of publication.
Upon the arrival of the Non-Citizens/Non-Residents in Mauritius, they should call at the Central Civil Status Office for verification of the original documents.
Note: Documents should be forwarded 6-8 weeks before the wedding.
Filled coversheet with all details:
- Two photocopies of each birth certificate drawn up in English/French. The date of issue of the birth certificate must not be more than 3 months.
- Two photocopies of each passport (photo page + pages with applicant's details)
- Relevant documents in respect of divorce, widow/widower or change of name.
- In addition to above documents, a French national should produce a "Certificat de capacité de mariage".
- A Certificate of Authority certifying that the non-citizen is also a non –resident, is issued to the parties in Mauritius after verification of their documents whose date of issue shall not be more than 3 months.
- The marriage can be celebrated in the Office, marriage hall, hotels or in any private/non-private premises by a Civil Status Officer after a publication of 24 hours.
- In case, any party cannot produce any civil status document, he may instead produce an affidavit sworn in his country of residence or in such form as the Registrar of Civil Status may approve.
- As regards fees for wedding held in the Office, no payment is required. If it is celebrated in the hotel or any private/non-private premises, a payment of Rs 5000- should be made at the Central Civil Status Office.
(ix) The parties should provide a means of conveyance if so requested by the Officer to and from the private/non-private premises.
(x) Two witnesses are required to be present at time of the marriage ceremony.
